Questions You Should Never Forget To Ask A Home Inspector After Inspection

When you're looking to buy a new home, there are many things you need to do to make sure you're making a sound decision, and the conversation after your inspection is one of the most valuable parts of the process.

Ask which findings are safety issues versus maintenance items, that hierarchy shapes how urgently you need to act. Ask for a rough sense of remaining life on big-ticket systems like the roof, water heater, and HVAC, so you can budget ahead rather than react.

It's also worth asking whether any findings warrant a specialist follow-up, a structural engineer, electrician, or roofer, rather than assuming the general report is the final word on a serious issue.

And don't be shy about asking the inspector to walk back through specific photos. A good inspector wants you to actually understand your new home, not just receive a document about it.
