Building a new home can be an exciting and overwhelming experience. Every step of the process matters, from selecting materials to the final walkthrough, and that's exactly where new-construction inspections earn their keep.
New builds get inspected differently than resale homes. We're less focused on age-related wear and much more focused on installation quality: are electrical connections properly terminated, is flashing installed correctly around windows and roof penetrations, are HVAC systems balanced and properly sized for the space.
Grading and drainage around a brand-new foundation deserve close attention too, builders are working against a tight schedule, and drainage details are an easy thing to shortcut under time pressure.
This is also why we recommend a follow-up inspection near the end of your builder's one-year warranty. Some issues, minor settling, sealant failures, HVAC balance problems, only show up after the home has gone through a full season.
